Job Description

Be responsible for managing health and safety functions in line with the company’s policies and procedures. To ensure effective implementation of these as well as ensuring all statutory obligations are adhered to.

 

What you’ll be doing:

  • Maintain scheme memberships and health and safety accreditations by the preparation and submitting of annual health and safety audits and completion of customer pre-qualification questionnaires.
  • Providing guidance on fire regulations, PPE standards, hazardous substances, and equipment safety, educating staff on risks and promoting a positive safety culture.
  • Identify health and safety training needs in conjunction with line managers, team and company priorities to ensure compliance and organise courses.
  • Monitor the health and safety training budget on an annual basis and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety training interventions
  • Investigating accidents, near misses and incidents to determine root causes and implement corrective measures.
  • Preparing reports on accident statistics for senior management and to existing and potential clients when completing pre-qualification questionnaires and attending client health and safety meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation that any incident that falls within the scope of RIDDOR is reported to HSE.
  • Attend annual health and safety consultancy and accreditation audits held in-house by external companies and provide all relevant information to ensure continued compliance.
  • In conjunction with the support of managers develop risk assessments and identify potential hazards.
  • Lead the monthly health and safety meetings and manage subsequent actions including monitoring of working hours, creating a programme of toolbox talks to be delivered on site, update and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Conduct site audits, toolbox talks and report on safety performance to the health and safety committee.
  • Managing emergency procedures, including evacuations and first-aid provisions.
  • Act as the main point of contact for regulatory authorities and advising managers on safety compliance.
  • Reviewing work procedures and ensuring they meet industry safety standards.
  • Ensure that appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided and used in accordance with the task in hand.
  • Overseeing safety standards for contractors and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

 

Who we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years’ experience working in a dedicated health and safety role.
  • 2+ years proven experience in a supervisory or management role.
  • In-depth awareness and understanding of health and safety policies and procedures and best practice principles.
  • Awareness of health and safety and industry related regulations keeping up to date with relevant legislation.
  • Expertise in conducting risk assessments, method statements, and root cause analysis for incident investigations.
